Is na de oorlog veroordeeld vanwege zijn lidmaatschap van het Nationalsozialistisches Kraftfahrkorps (NSKK). Hij kreeg hiervoor 2 1/2 jaar internering, met aftrek van voorarrest (bron: Friesch Dagblad dd. 21-5-1947).
Baarte emigreerde in december 1954 naar Amerika en is daar overleden in 2007. Was hier schilder. Bij zijn overlijden is het volgende gedenkverhaal op internet geplaatst: Baarte Kielstra, 90, passed away in Selah on Sunday, July 15, 2007.
He was born in The Netherlands on Sept. 2, 1916.
As a young man he worked on a merchant sailing ship, was a driver in the German Army, and worked at a garage after the war. In 1948, he married Petronella Von Boxel. In December of 1954, Baarte, Nellie, and their children immigrated to the United States, settling in Outlook. He painted houses throughout the valley until his retirement in 1976, when he moved to Sequim. In 1981, he married Mary De Long.
After her death, he returned to the Yakima Valley, eventually settling in Selah.
In 2002, he married Toni Steinmetz.
He is survived by his wife, Toni of Selah; son Reinie Kielstra, Sunnyside; daughter Teressa Kelly, Outlook; daughter, Wilma Perez, Lake Stevens; grandsons, Nikolas Kielstra, Marcus Kielstra, Elijah Perez, Elliot Perez, Mathew Perez, Richard Hoyt, and Timothy Hoyt; granddaughters, Hominee Matheny, Brandy La Force, and Lindsay Bardessono; stepdaughter, Toni Darby; stepgranddaughters, Jasmine, Jessica, Jolena, and Jalesie Darby, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Williem Kielstra.
He was a member of the Gleed Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 28, 2007, at 1 p.m., at the Gleed Kingdom Hall.
